BIG MOVIE PREMIERES
Thursday 07-17-2008 5:13am ET

Woah!  We've had 2 big Columbus movie premieres.......2 nights in a row!  Thanks for packin' both theaters, or..........if ya didn't win tickets- I won't give too much away- here are my thought s on what'll be 2 of the summer's biggest films.

"MAMMA MIA" ..........imagine this fun Broadway Show, now with breathtaking greek island backrounds.  Even the indoor scenes will make you wish you were there.  Want big laughs with your musical?  See MAMMA MIA.  Those ABBA tunes are amazing, Dancing Queen is simply one of the best songs ever!  It plays at the end, as the credits roll, stay thru it.......and the next song too.

And for a compelely opposite feel, it's "THE DARK KNIGHT"  -this is the follow up to BATMAN BEGINS.  There are many big stars in this, and wait until you see Heath Ledger as The Joker.  His laugh isn't evil, it's insane!  His voice is unpredictable.  He's so gifted with it, it's completely different from how he sounded in Brokeback Mountain or The Patriot.  If you've ever thought clowns were scarey- this Joker will really get you!  He was actually trying to emulate ventriliquist dummies, he thought they had terrifying voices.........I've never thought that, but he's on to something here.  Plan accordingly, this new Batman movie is long (2 1/2 hours) and NOT for little kids, there are some disturbing scenes.  For adults thou, this Joker will go down (like Hannibal Lecter) as one of the greatest villians of all time!

We 93.3 DJs also hosted a little dinner to wrap up our "Get Green' contest.  The Arlington Cafe put together a beautiful buffet and just about all the 93.3 listeners there won a prize!  It was a nice time, hope ya had fun.......sure acted like you did!
Over the air- I've got nice prizes to give away this week.  I'm on weekdays 5:30 to 9am, and Sunday 3 to 7pm.

Thoughts about George Carlin:

It's now sinking in, that he's gone. Has always been one of my favorite people, got to meet him 15 years ago, He did a mini performance for my friend and I, we'd weazeled our way backstage to tell him we thought he was great.  When we mentioned one of our favorite pieces he'd ever put together- HE performed it for us, was very animated, did voices, the whole thing.........for 2 minutes that seemed like 10, we loved it, he knew we loved it, he loved doing it for us.........it was a private show for 2 people.   A true highlight of my life!

Carlin was a 9th grade dropout, was fascinated by language and became a master at making us think.  He started out as a DJ, then became a standup comic, was always evoling.  Unleashed on trends, religion, and the government......"it's kind of a foolish waisteful culture we live in- it's fun to point that out."  He made us re-examine what we've long stopped thinking about......"How come when it's US- it's an abortion, and when it's a chicken- it's an omlet.  Are we so much better than chickens all of a sudden?"
He made nice moves to build a great career.......Housewives knew him from the Merv Griffin TV show, had a cult following with college students thru his albums (and won 4 grammys with them.)  Was the first host of Saturday Night Live and started doing HBO specials back when HBO was new.  Young people today know him as "The Conductor" -he loved being on that show, saying it was so well written.
In 1997, speaking about death: " I've been lucky, if I suddenly go tomorrow......hmmmm, not bad, I've had alot of things."
His daughter Kelly said "He taught me the value of speaking the truth in a world that doesn't always want to hear it.  He was loved and revered by so many and will be missed beyond words -but never forgotten."

Thank you George.  Nobody can match your delivery, and I don't want 'em to try.  You've made me think, and laugh.......... a couple million times.

ABOUT ME ......... besides a Carlin laugh, or music -like funky stuff from the 80's, or a favorite tune from Sting, Manilow, Buble' or whoever I'm in the mood for........a perfect afternoon is spent hiking to a lake to enjoy nature.  Click on the photos to the left, for some favorite getaways- and cool animal friends.  Can't explain it, I've always felt a connection to animals.

Talk to ya soon!   Andy
